PROPUMP Pumping Station - Installation Instructions

The following operating instructions include important information on installing the system properly and should make it possible to acquaint oneself with the system and to make use of its specific installation capabilities. The operating instructions do not reflect specific site requirements. Please take the time to read these instructions carefully and ensure that you understand the contents fully. If you experience any uncertainties or problems please contact nearest Pipelife supplier to obtain advice before starting installation work.

Pipelife PRO station is an integrated system, built into an injection moulded housing manufactured from strong, impact-resistant polypropylene. Each unit is supplied with internal pipe work, pre-assembled ready for installation into the ground.  Pump or pumps are delivered separately and must be installed afterwards, when the station is situated in the ground. The pump station may include controls for fully automatic operation e.g. a high-level alarm indication. For maintenance purposes and in the event of pump failure all stations are equipped with guide-rails and auto-couplings to permit easy removal of pumps for maintenance purposes.

In comparison to the conventional alternative of a concrete well and separate pump system, Pipelife PRO stations offer the potential for reducing the cost and time involved with civil work and site labour.

Installation and maintenance personnel must all have the necessary knowledge for the work. Areas of responsibility and supervision must be precisely defined by the user. If the personnel do not have the appropriate qualifications, then they must be trained. This can be carried out by the supplier. Furthermore, the user should guarantee that personnel have fully understood the contents of the operating instructions supplied with the system.

Ground preparation

The installation location must permit access for a crane . The installation should be stopped if interference between the crane and overhead obstructions is anticipated. The ground selected for crane operations must be of the necessary integrity to safely support crane operations. The Pump Station must be lifted with proper lifting equipment (i.e. fork lift or crane). Ensure that all necessary lifting equipment is used properly. The Pump Station must be installed according to the applicable wiring diagram.

The foundations should be excavated according to local regulations. A minimum working space of 50 cm should be maintained on all sides at the base of the foundation. A 15 cm depth of sand should be laid in the bottom of the excavation and compressed.
The foundations must be dry during building work.
Lower the tank into the foundation with appropriate lifting gear and align.

When connecting inlet & outlet pipelines, avoid the transfer of pipeline stress to the housing. The pipeline should be laid in a frost-free environment.

Various connection options are available and are manufactured according to specific project needs. Connection is normally provided with double socket.

Back-fill the foundations according to local requirements. A backfill layer of sand of about 300 mm should be used for the protection of the pump station body. Use sand with a maximum particle size of 8mm. The rest of the foundations can be backfilled with the excavated material, provided this does not contain any sharp particles, rocks or stones. The backfill should be layered in thicknesses of up to 30 cm and compressed at each layer. Compress with a light tamper according to local requirements.
During backfill compacting procedure, pressure on the side of the pump station housing is to be avoided. To prevent this, it may be necessary to fill the station with water in order to avoid deformation. Before doing this, remove any earth, gravel or sand from inside the housing.

In areas with high groundwater levels, or where there is high clay content, we recommend the tank be surrounded with concrete.

Electrical work should only be carried out by a professional in accordance with the site regulations.

For electrical connections, refer to the pump Operating & Manual instructions supplied with the pump and the Operating & Manual instructions found inside the control box.

Installation of the pump/s

The pump is delivered separately and must be installed after pump station housing installation.
Check for transit damage before assembly and installation of pump.

Position the pump over the upper guide rail holder and lower slowly. After lowering, the pump connects itself to the auto coupling, and is thereby attached to the discharge pipeline ready for operation.

It should be ensured that enough free cable length is left in the pump housing, so that the pump can be safely pulled out for maintenance work making sure that this is secured at the top of the chamber and cannot be drawn into the pump suction.
