Agriculture

In our Agriculture segment we include products from the field of Drainage and Irrigation.

Drainage
In agriculture the use of drain pipes becomes especially necessary in case of water saturation due to either an insufficient absorption capacity of the soil or to a high salinity level of the land. The application of drain systems allows the ventilation of the roots, increase of the temperature and the regeneration of the soil. It also reduces the appearance of parasitic plants and enhances the permeability of the ground. The final result is an improvement of the output.

Drain systems are also usefully applicable for non-agricultural installations such as sport courts, gardens, green areas or roads, highways, railways and aerodromes.

For all these applications a wide range of PVC pipe systems both corrugated and smooth is available.

The advantages of our systems are:
  • flexibility

  • light weight

  • resistance to aggressive soil

  • high chemical resistance

  • high shock resistance

  • easy and economical installation

  • In some cases, such as road construction, totally different material characteristics are required. Pipelife takes that into account by offering systems in high density polyethylene (HDPE) and polypropylene (PP).

The PVC and the PE pipes can also be supplied "wrapped" which serves as a filter and ensures excellent drain-efficiency for a long period. Depending on the composition of the ground natural fibers (e.g. coco) as well as artificial materials (i.e. polyester, polystyrene, polypropylene) can be provided as wrapping.

    No Dig Drain
No Dig Drain is a drainage system that can be installed underneath existing buildings and other areas by means of horizontal drilling techniques. Trenchless installation ensures minimal disturbance of the infrastructure surrounding the working site. The main fields of application are soil and groundwater recuperation, air purging and extraction of soil vapor, as well as monitoring of ground water (e.g. under existing waste deposits).

The system consists of a smooth PE coated pipe and an internal PE filter pipe. Through the perforated pipe fluids can be pumped, vapors can escape. This highly innovative technique is especially applicable for the following areas:
  • cleaning of soil underneath buildings, installations and non accessible areas
  • monitoring of groundwater under existing waste deposits and gas stations
  • air purging and extraction of soil vapor
  • infiltration of biomass
  • temporary drainage systems on and near infrastructures such as sewage, building sites, golfcourses, etc.

    Irrigation
Wherever plants grow, water is the necessary element to enable their survival. Pipelife takes all the possible circumstances like climate, temperature or amounts of water required into account, and offers a largevariety of irrigation systems for numerous purposes. Whether it is watering gardens, sports fields or agricultural areas, Pipelife has the perfect solutions.

  • Agricultural Irrigation

  • Irrigation of recreation and sports areas

  • Irrigation for glasshouses

  • Agricultural Irrigation
Free flow irrigation systems were mainly used in the past because of their simplicity. The water is just guided to the field and spreads by itself. Unfortunately this irrigation method leads to a water loss of about 50%. Therefore two alternative irrigation methods have been developed: Sprinkler and drip irrigation.

Sprinkler irrigation has gained increasing importance in modern irrigation applications. With its technique, water is sprinkled in the form of rainlike homogenous droplets in controlled amounts. The sprinkler irrigation system offers a wide range of advantages:
  • The utilized output is high. Optimized advantage can be obtained from water where irrigation water is scare (3-5l/sec).
  • Without causing erosion, it can be used in places with steep slopes and/or where the topography is irregular. It is the ideal irrigation method where soil is shallow and conductivity is low.
  • As water is introduced in fine, rain-like droplets, productivity is high.
  • Minimization of installation and labor costs.
  • Especially in places near the sea, salt particles, dusts and harmful insects carried by winds can be washed away.
  • As controlled water quantities can be introduced, it accounts for the most adequate irrigation system when draining problems (e.g. high leveled groundwater) are existing.
  • Plantation areas increase by the fact that no ditches on the fields are necessary.
  • Artificial fertilizers may be administeredtogether with irrigation water. Soluble, solid, liquid and composed fertilizers may be injected into the water by various means and applied accordingly. In such systems irrigation is maintained after fertilization and residues in the pipes and sprinklers are washed away. Additionally, fertilizer remnants on the leafs are dissolved.
  • Also protection against frost is achievable through sprinkler irrigation. In calm, cloudless and clear weather the coldest air layer remains closest to the ground. The temperature difference at 50-60 cm hight from ground attains 4-5°C. In such cases, the cold air over the soil, the warmer slightly above and sprinkling water are mixed to prevent damages from frost. Sprinkling increases relative humidity of the air, thereby improving protection against frost.

The Quick Coupling Sprinkler Irrigation System is very economically. The inherent low cost is easily recognized when all parts of the system are considered as a whole. Parts can be replaced and this in turn increases economical life of the system.

The Quick Coupling HDPE pipes used for sprinkler irrigation are produced in diameters of 75 mm, 90 mm, 110 mm and 125 mm and are resistant to external loads that may impact during transport and handling in the field. The pipes hardly break and the pipe connection heads are cracking resistant. Clamps are designed to withstand twice the nominal pressure. The system adapts to all types of landscape. Pipelife offers also a great variety of fittings, like T-pieces, elbows, endcaps, hydrants, swan necks, reducers and valves.

Drip irrigation is a rather new irrigation method and offers remarkable advantages compared to other irrigation systems:
  • low fungus diseases effect due to irrigation directly to root system
  • limited weed appearance around the plants
  • very effective irrigation system for sandy soil, inclined and windy areas
  • highly efficient water utilization
  • low-pressure operation is possible, which leads to savings in energy
  • last but not least, drip irrigation helps to save labor costs

To prevent the drippers from obstruction, it is very important that an excellent filtration system is installed.

The system functions as followed: Water enters the dripper through the filter, where small stones and other spoil are sorted out. The water flows through the pipe system and drips out at the end of the labyrinth through holes punched into the pipe wall. The water pressure regulates the desired flow rate, and therefore the number of drops per minute. Various drip line arrangements are possible.

Irrigation of recreation and sports areas
Watering of gardens done by hand can be annoying. Many owners of gardens do not want to waste their time pulling the hose through their gardens. Therefore they prefer a fix installed irrigation system, which saves them not only time, but also money andhelps to preserve healthy vegetation and therefore increases the value of their premises. Pipelife’s garden irrigation system is fully automized and consists of all required elements for a complete solution.

    Irrigation for glasshouses
Rain-O-Flor® is an irrigation pipe especially designed for glasshouses. The wall consists of three layers, a white outside and inside layer and a black interior layer. The white color ensures a high light reflection in the glasshouse, the black interior layer is opaque and the water temperature remains low in the pipe. The opaque layer and the low water temperature prevent growth of algal.
Rain-O-Flor® pipes are available in diameters from 32 to 90 mm.
