Pipelife has recently introduced a new product, the Detectable Robust Pipe (RPD). Generally, it is a robust pipe with a copper wire inserted in the foam layer. It is available in the same range as the robust pipe, for both water or gas applications as well as for cable protection. These pipes can be connected as the robust pipe by electrofusion, butt welding and compression fittings. Prior to the fusion it is necessary to remove the protective skinlayer to expose the core of the pipe beneath. Big attention must be given when peeling off sufficient skin coating. In order to prevent the damage of the inserted copper wire it must be handled very carefully. For the actual connection of the two ends of the copper wire (bridging the fusion) conventional mechanical couplers and a piece of insulated copper tracers are used. Following this procedure, the whole connection must be insulated carefully by a special self vulcanizing rubber tape 'Rotunda'. The Detectable Robust Pipe is currently only manufactured by Pipelife-Fatra in the Czech Republic.
