Water & Life Project in Madagascar

Vinaninkarena is a Madagascan village 190 km from the capital. In it the Medima association has created the Mahaimandry centre (a refuge for the victims of the Geralda cyclone (1994) and destitute families).

Water is of prime importance to ensure the development of this centre. It wants to be self-sufficient in food and to finance its activities by selling its surplus food.

To this end the Medima association set up a water supply project at the end of 2001 called "water and life".

This project affects 3800 people: 6 hamlets, 6 schools and colleges and 1 hospital.

A pipeline has been laid, linking the water sources to a number of water points (15 fountain points, showers and washhouses), by way of a water tower containing a 60m³ tank made of flexible PVC (donated Design by Solvay).

Pipelife made the 12 km of pipework necessary for the operation.
