Pipelife Sverige: 6.800 meters PE pipes to Loudden

13 pipes on the road - well, not exactly, they are on the water!


Together with the wholesaler Ahlsell and the contractor NCC, Pipelife Sverige AB has been given the order for a supply of PE pressure pipes for the project Loudden in Stockholm.

The pipes, all in all 6.800 metres in dimension 630 mm, left the plant at Stathelle in Norway on Tuesday September 9th. The transport round Sweden took five days. To tow pipes after a boat has become one of Pipelife's specialities and projects have been carried out all around the world. The great advantage of supplying pipes in long lengths is that the receiver does not have to weld them together. It is a great economical advantage and the projects are therefore also quicker to finish.

So, what are these pipes in such a large a dimension used for?

Loudden has previously had their own purifying plant. This will now be replaced by a pump station. This station will at night pump sewage water to the purifying plant Henriksdal. NCC, the contractor doing the work, will submerge two long parallel pipes ending up in Nacka. After than a stainless steel pipe will be drilled straight through the rock and connected to a sewage tunnel.

In order to submerge the pipes, large concrete weights are being used. Quite a project, in other words.

In order to do some extra PR in connection with this project Pipelife will arrange a number of information meetings at the work site. Other county councils by the sea as well as some consultants will be invited.
