EXPLORE

Practicing what we preach: our environmentally friendly processes

From reducing carbon emissions to adopting circular economy principles, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact at every stage of production. Our goal is to prioritize sustainable practices and minimize pollution wherever possible while still delivering high-quality product systems with lasting performance throughout their lifecycle.

Energy-Efficient Production Processes

As a solution brand of wienerberger, we are committed to the decarbonization goals outlined in the wienerberger Sustainability Program 2026: namely, a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 CO₂ emissions by 2026 and a 40% reduction by 2030.

These efforts include a shift from using fossil fuels to renewable alternatives, such as wind, solar and biogas. Additional measures to reduce production emissions and optimize energy consumption include the use of closed cooling circuits, photovoltaic systems and the reuse of production off-heat.

Women-in-Manufacturing

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

As of 2023, all Pipelife products are recyclable or reusable at the end of their natural lifecycle. This, along with our commitment to producing top-quality products with lifespans between 50 and 100 years, reduces the amount of plastic entering landfills while also saving on the resources that would otherwise be required to produce replacement products. We are also targeting waste reduction through our prefabricated solutions, which save approximately 20% of the material and emissions of individually produced setups.

Beyond this, we are incorporating recycled materials into our products wherever possible while maintaining the exceptional quality that our clients expect. Pipelife has more than doubled the amount of recycled material used in production since 2017, with a projected total of 95 kg per ton expected in 2024.

Conscientious Practices

Pipelife is a proud signee of Operation Clean Sweep — an industry-led initiative that aims to prevent plastic from entering local ecosystems due to poor production and supply chain practices. Accordingly, we’ve implemented strict measures to avoid plastic pellet loss across all Pipelife production sites.

Factories are equipped with zero-loss containment systems that stop pellets from reaching stormwater drains and, ultimately, aquifers and natural water sources. Our proactive approach also includes automated raw material transfers to minimize spills and regular employee training to ensure the issue is at the forefront of everyone’s mind while working.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs)

Transparency is vital in today’s market, and we’re working hard to make it easier for our clients and partners to understand the environmental impact of our products. Pipelife has started digitizing Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), which provide standardized, third-party-verified data about the lifecycle impacts of our products.

As our EPD program continues to grow, this digitization effort will enable clients to easily compare our products’ environmental profiles with those of other suppliers, helping them make more sustainable purchasing decisions.

Environmental Management Systems

To ensure our products are always up to the sustainability and quality standards our clients expect, we have implemented environmental and quality management systems at every production site based on the principles and practices of ISO 14001 and ISO 9001.

Managing production in this way ensures we remain compliant with environmental laws and regulations. We regularly monitor, measure and evaluate our environmental performance, using this data to drive continuous improvement in our eco-friendly practices.
