Pipelife around the World - November / December 2013

On November 8th, Typhoon „Haiyan“ - one of the strongest storms ever recorded on our planet - hit 39 provinces in the Philippines.  The storm brought tremendously powerful winds roaring ashore as it made landfall in the province of Eastern Visayas, disrupting communications with a major cities in its path. Haiyan then proceeded in north western direction. The center of the Typhoon went over the Islands of Samar, Leyte, Bohol, Cebu, Negros, Panay and Mindoro, leaving a trace of destruction More than 10 million people were and still are affected by this disaster.

Various aid organizations, among them numerous volunteers of the Red Cross are at site, giving medical aid, distributing goods and purify drinking water, as well as providing emergency accommodation.
Due to the tremendous scope of this disaster, Pipelife has decided to dedicate two months within its “27-27-27 Pipelife around the world” CSR support project to the Philippines, donating over 5.000 EUR to the Red Cross, enabling them to further extend their aid work.

More than 2 million people, among them many children, need food, but especially clean drinking water. Therefore, the Austrian Red Cross has sent an expert for drinking water purification to the Philippines. Pipelife’s donation will support his work and will grant access to pure drinking water for many of those affected.
