Tatra National Park is among the most environmentally diverse areas in Poland. The Kościeliska Valley, known for its breathtaking landscapes, draws hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. With the park’s popularity comes a clear responsibility: to provide modern tourism infrastructure while safeguarding the fragile mountain ecosystem.
A modern sewage and water supply network in Tatra National Park delivered by Pipelife Poland demonstrates how smart infrastructure solutions can support environmental conservation efforts.
Right inside the unique Kościeliska Valley, an ambitious investment is underway: the construction of new sewer and water supply systems entirely within the boundaries of the National Park.
Underground installations in a protected area require not only advanced technology but also solutions with minimal environmental footprint. For this reason, Pipelife’s coated PE 100-RC Aqualine Robust Smart pressure pipe system was selected — a highly durable, low-intrusion solution, ideally suited to demanding and environmentally sensitive areas. Aqualine Robust Smart pipes can be laid directly in native soil with no bedding required. The selected installation method allows for preserving the natural landscape by minimizing the need for excavation.
To ensure long-term safety and environmental stewardship, the underground system is supported by TDR remote monitoring. This technology enables continuous network supervision and allows operators to detect any irregularities immediately. The smart, modern approach ensures high operational safety and reliability while minimizing the future need for physical interventions in a sensitive environment.
Pipelife’s Aqualine Robust Smart pipes feature factory-integrated sensor wires for remote pipeline monitoring and failure detection in water supply and sewage systems. Network operators can continuously track the condition of the pipeline and accurately locate leaks or interruptions. Alarm notifications are sent immediately via email and SMS, allowing rapid response to any issues.
Available in diameters from 90 mm to 250 mm (PN 10, PN 16), the pipes are fully compatible with other PE pipes and fittings. Their lightweight construction and the possibility of installation without removing the outer layer shorten installation time and can reduce overall installation costs by up to 50%.
• Continuous remote monitoring
• Route and installation-depth detection
• Precise failure location
• Detection of multiple leaks and interruptions
• Instant alerts
The new underground system in Tatra National Park will run for 3.5 kilometers, from the entrance to the Kościeliska Valley up to the Hala Pisana area.
The project relies on DN90 PN16 Aqualine Robust Smart pipes for both water supply and sewage lines. The 3,500-meter sections are joined by butt welding.
Scheduled for completion in early 2026, the new network will ensure safe water supply and wastewater management for several new sanitary points along the popular Kościeliska Valley trail.
