The future is in our hands. We firmly believe that it is all our responsibility to protect and improve our world’s economic, environmental and social systems, to ensure safe, healthy and carefree living for current as well as future generations.
Together, we have the unique opportunity to create a better world
Mark van Loon, Senior Vice President Sustainability and Innovation, Pipelife
With our solutions in infrastructure, we fight water scarcity and make cities more resilient. For buildings we are working towards energy neutral living, and in agriculture we ensure food supply while saving on valuable resources and protecting our soils.
With our piping solutions, we are here to increase the resilience of communities against climate change, protect natural resources, and enable a transition to a low carbon economy. Let's create safer and more carefree living, together.
Most of our products are 100% recyclable and we keep increasing the amount of recycled materials in production. Our environment concerns each one of us, this is why we work on leaving behind the smallest environmental impact possible.
It is our duty to care for the well-being of communities around the world. We are active in numerous social projects and initiatives worldwide, and provide support in every region where we are present.
Every year, we increase the ratio of recycled plastics in production while ensuring the high product quality our clients rely on.
our green initiatives
Our self-imposed environmental goals
In addition to our active contribution to the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals, we have also set our own environmental goals.
Our "Sustainability Roadmap" represents a self-imposed commitment to continuously reduce water, energy and electricity usage, as well CO2 emissions, while increasing recycled plastics in our production.
The targets have been met, and once again achieved a year earlier than planned. View the reportfrom our mother company Wienerberger, which outlines the Group’s sustainability strategy and commitments.
More than 100 years service life
One of the aspects considered in the Life Cycle Assessment is service life, which refers to the length of time a product can actually stay in operation. Our PE pressure pipe systems for gas, potable water and marine applications can last up to 100 years, or more.
How is this possible? Read the position paper by the European Association for Plastic Pipes TEPPFA and PE100+.
There is growing public concern about plastics entering the environment. Most of the plastic found originates from carelessly discarded bottles and packaging, but some are resin pellets from the manufacturing industry.
To stop plastic from polluting our environment, Plastics Europe created the Zero Pellet Loss initiative. In 2015, this initiative was united with the global Operation Clean Sweep® program. Some of our production sites already have these screens in place. However, ALL Pipelife businesses have committed to the installation of filters during 2020.
To provide more transparency around the environmental footprint of plastic pipe systems on our environment, especially when compared with other piping materials, we have developed an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) calculation tool.
We are involved in numerous sustainability projects and initiatives throughout our markets. Our goal is to put forward-thinking ecological and economical solutions in place that focus on local needs, and support and protect communities. View our project news below for more information.
