Ensuring Safe Water Supply in Earthquake-Affected Croatia

Our local team quickly mobilized to send materials and manpower to help restore potable water after a Croatian town was devastated by a magnitude 6.4 earthquake that hit the country on December 29th. The quake shocked several areas throughout the country and both locals and neighbouring countries quickly reacted to send aid.

We’re currently on the ground in the worst affected area helping the town’s water works connect mobile homes to water sources. “It’s the least we could do,” said Pipelife Croatia General Manager Petar Feric.

“We’re deeply saddened by the loss of life and destruction in Croatia. It’s really important to us to send all the support we can provide to those in need as quickly as possible. The first priority is ensuring that all those who’ve lost their homes are supplied with clean drinking water and access to a waste-water disposal system in their temporary housing. We’re very much aware of how crucial piping systems are to people's health and wellbeing, so for us it was obvious that we need to take action,” said Pipelife CEO Harald Schwarzmayr.

Delivering donations to earthquake afffected areas in Croatia

So far Pipelife Croatia has provided 8,500 pipes and 800 pipe fittings and joints, and continues to send additional materials. The Croatian team is working closely with local authorities to provide support, and over the next few weeks they will be collecting donations of food, hygiene articles, and other necessary items. We’ve already delivered the first batch of donated items to affected areas.
