Open trench cable ducts

For classic open trench installations, we offer a wide range of cable ducts and accessories in smooth single-, double- or triple-layer constructions.

Different projects present different challenges, so we offer solutions for a variety of applications — from residential connections to high-voltage infrastructure projects.

Our range of couplers and bends ensure quality connections throughout the network, minimizing friction while reducing the number of chambers and cable joints required.

Trenchless and heavy-duty cable ducts

Our heavy-duty PE ducts are perfect for abrasive installation techniques such as trenchless horizontal directional drilling, rough trench conditions or open installation above ground.

Made from the highest grade material, our robust rigid ducts are available in lengths from 6-21 m and our coiled ducts are available up to 300 m long.

All ducts in the heavy-duty range are accompanied by specific couplers and reducers to complete bespoke setups.

Telecommunication cable ducts

Whether you’re building critical infrastructure, FTTH, or signal systems for rail and road, high-quality ducting is non-negotiable to ensure reliable communication systems.

Available in sizes up to 40 mm diameter, our telecommunication ducts cover a wide range of use cases. They are specially designed for jetting fiber optic cables thanks to ribbed and lubricated duct interiors that facilitate faster cable injection with compressed air.

Enhanced safety cable ducts

For applications with high safety requirements, we offer flame-retardant halogen-free ducts. This solution is typically required for road or railway tunnels, metro stations, culverts and critical buildings where open cable ducts are installed.

Duct Banks

Pipelife OPI duct banks use versatile, modular spacers to organize ducts and ensure they remain stable and well positioned. Once in formation, the ducts are incased in concrete for underground protection and improved heat dissipation compared to dry sand.

Our duct banks ensure space-saving duct organization, additional protection for critical infrastructure projects, longer duct service lives, and easier cable replacements.

Added fire safety

For fire-safe projects that require the complete absence of halogens, we offer halogen-free, flame-retardant PP ducts.

Wide range

With a wide range of sizes, materials and constructions, we have cable ducting products for whatever your application or need.

Streamline maintenance

Speed up maintenance with color-coded ducts that quickly distinguish cables and avoid maintenance errors.

Highly durable

Our robust cable ducts made from high-quality PP, PE and PVC shield cables from construction damage, tree root growth or earth movement. Our double and triple-wall ducts boast mechanical stress resistance ratings of 750N.

All ducts and accessories align with national and European standards, ensuring long-lasting infrastructure solutions you can rely on to be future proof.

Easier on-site handling

Lightweight pipes are easier to transport and handle on-site, while high-quality PE, PP and PVC ensure high-impact resistance and durability in case of on-site handling errors.

Manage environmental impact

With high-quality ducting, cables can be pulled, recycled and replaced without excavation, saving on unnecessary CO2 emissions.

We also offer options made from recycled materials and low-carbon PVC that continue to meet the requirements of EN 50626.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Cable ducts are protective pipes that house electrical cables for power and communication lines.

They ensure electrical cables are protected against external impacts, traffic loads, environmental factors, chemical exposure, pests, and intensive installation methods.

Our range of cable ducts covers a wide variety of applications, including:

  • Above and below ground installations

  • Trenchless installations

  • Fire-safe applications (halogen-free and flame retardant ducts)

  • Fiber optic cable protection

  • Electrical energy cable protection

  • Duct banks

  • Underwater installations

Our range includes PP, PE and PVC ducts, which vary according to application.

For example, for applications that require heavy-duty impact and abrasion protection, such as trenchless installations, we offer robust PE ducts.

For open trench installations or duct banks, we offer a wide range of PVC ducts from 50-250 mm, including long radius bends.

Some projects, like open tunnel installations or interior building setups, require additional fire-safety considerations. Although PVC boasts excellent fire resistance, some circumstances also require the complete absence of halogens. For these additional safety applications, we provide halogen-free, flame-retardant ducts that never contain PVC.

Our black cable ducts are UV resistant and safe to use in applications where they will be exposed to sunlight.

Yes. While PVC ducts are self-extinguishing, initial exposure to fire can cause corrosive fumes. Therefore, we also offer a range of extra fire-safe cable ducts made from HFF (halogen-free, flame-retardant) PP. HFF PP ducts can be used in applications that have additional fire-safety requirements — like tunnels, metro stations, culverts and open indoor installations — as they are completely free of halogens and PVC.

OPI is a Pipelife partner of almost three decades. Together, we have worked to provide reliable, easy-to-install duct banks for major infrastructure projects and challenging installation settings.

The OPI portfolio includes reusable formwork holders, formwork plates and more than 125 spacer variations. These components provide a complete solution for duct bank setup and casting, whether on-site or in a controlled setting.

OPI’s interlocking modular spacer system is highly adaptable to various project needs, speeding up installation and minimizing the risk of alignment issues.

Although all Pipelife cable ducts are made for the highest quality raw materials, choosing the correct duct for your project is critical to ensure the maximum lifespan. When applied to the appropriate application, Pipelife cable ducts can last up to 100 years.

Our cable ducts can be bought directly from your local Pipelife partner. We are present in over 20 European countries, all of whom will be happy to field any of your purchasing inquiries. For more details, see the list of our operating countries at the bottom of the page.
